The project
Establishing a nature conservation center in Kosovo
Kosovo is characterized by a high level of biodiversity due to its special topography and traditional land use. At the same time, the country faces many challenges in the environmental sector. Inadequate basic environmental education and a lack of professional capacity in the field of nature conservation make it difficult to tackle these problems efficiently. The establishment of a multi-purpose environmental center, which can contribute to environmental awareness, education, research and knowledge exchange, is therefore of great importance to preserve the exceptional nature of this region.
The project aims to promote the establishment of such an environmental center in Kosovo. To this end, a feasibility study will be carried out to show who can be the sponsor, which cooperations are possible, how the administrative and decision-making structure can be set up and how the center can be financed in the longer term. The project team will involve government and academic partners, NGOs and civil society in order to build a network that can promote the idea of the center. Wider support will be achieved through extensive public relations work and exemplary courses for schools and universities. Tailored educational activities will demonstrate the potential of the future center, including the use of the nature exhibition and laboratory provided by the University of Konstanz, which will serve as the basic building block for the environmental center.
In the long term, the project-driven steps to establish the environmental center should bear a variety of fruits for the nature sector in Kosovo. This will enable the country to better adapt to EU standards and raise its profile in the environmental sector.
